Members of the Board of Directors

Board Chair - Tony Spencer
Born in England, Tony Spencer moved to Canada at the age of 30.  For more than twenty years, Tony has been a practicing Recreation Therapist, working with seniors to make sure they have a full and meaningful leisure lifestyle.  Tony has taken on many leadership roles including the Recreation Therapist’s Professional Association, the Alberta St. George of England Society, lay leader in his church and the Highlands Lawn Bowling Club.  Tony has three children and three grand-children and now retired, enjoys travelling. 

Vice Chair - Catriona Gano
Catriona has been working in the healthcare field for more than ten years, as a medical laboratory technologist, a quality consultant, and currently with Coventant Health as the Executive Associate for Rural Health Services.  In addition to her volunteer work on ElderCare's Board of Directors, Catriona is also the co-chair of the Edmonton node of Emerging Health Leaders.  When Catriona is not busy working her on bachelors degree in health administration, she enjoys reading, travelling and scrapbooking. 

Treasurer-Peter Dalton 
Peter Dalton was born in Ireland and immigrated to Canada in 2001. Since arriving in Edmonton, Peter has obtained his professional accounting designation (CMA) and also holds a Bachelor of Science degree. Peter is currently the controller at Serenic Software. He has also held a number of senior financial positions with public companies in Edmonton. Peter is married with 2 young children and enjoys participating in triathlons and coaching his children's soccer teams.

Secretary- Michael Hogan
Michael Hogan immigrated to Alberta in 1995. Since then, he has volunteered in many capacities, including on the policy committee for the Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President of the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association, various Edmonton Tourism committees and a Community League board.  Michael is currently a managing partner at The Studio Group Marketing & Communications, and holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and an MBA.  Michael is married and has a daughter.

Director- Matthew Pagels
Originally from Richmond, B.C, Matthew now enjoys calling Alberta home.  Matthew has worked as a Health Care Aide at Bethany Long Term Care Centre, for MacMan Community Services, in South Korea as an English Teacher, and finally, as a Program Facilitator ElderCare’s daybreak program.   After resigning his position with ElderCare to begin his studies in the University of Alberta's Faculty of Law,  Matthew continued his involvement with the organization, in hopes of maintaining and improving what he saw first hand, the organization's record of outstanding service to clients and care-givers in need.  Matthew also enjoys music, theatre, writing and cooking.

Director- Mary Marchewka
Mary Marchewka has worked in the Health Care field for the past 26 years.   Mary earned her Health Record Technician Certificate and was formerly Alberta Health Services Privacy Advisor.  She remains at AHS, currently working as their Patient Engagement Consultant.   Mary has volunteered with various community leagues.  She has been an Executive board member, taken part in event planning, fundraising and recruiting.  Mary has a zest for people and strives to make a difference in her community.

Director- Melanie Babbitt, BSW, RSW
Over the past 15 years, Melanie has enjoyed working professionally with seniors in various capacities.  As a Registered Social Worker, she has committee and team experience with various senior serving organizations, and enjoys working towards strengthening community programs.  She was a member of the Elder Abuse Intervention Team and is currently enjoying a career as a full-time-mother, to two wonderful preschoolers
